Pope Innocent III called for a crusade which wiped out them and thousands of Catholics to boot: eg. initially, Beziers got in the way and lost almost all its 20000 citizens. Major massacres took place in the Madeleine Church and St. Nazaire’s Cathedral, both of which were burned, along with the rest of Beziers.
